I think I have purposefully avoiding laying out the details here, mostly to avoid the specificity and to allow myself the space to let this newsletter become whatever it may. But things don’t just appear, as a former dancer, I know this too well. As I have oscillated between so many ideas, hoarded them mostly, and talked myself out of committing to this newsletter, I am here now. I am here, now creating this container for the ideas to land and the little electrical network include me in it.
1. I am here now, even among the dirty dishes and dinner not being made.
I am here, because I have a million reasons not to be. I am here because my life changed four and a half years ago, when I became a parent. My life changed when I lost hope for this climate. My life changed when I stopped moving my emotions with dance. My life keeps changing and my wings keep lifting and my words keep getting lost to nights. I am here because all of this time is only a blink when your a corpse flower waiting for your seventh year to bloom. This time is a singular dew drop to the endless fog that hangs in the breath on the drive to preschool. This time is nothing and everything, and I am choosing to never hoard my work again.
2. What I’m building consists of a swirl of everything that my days contain. The infinite to the finite.
This newsletter is an imperfect container. I am a young parent, raising two small children in a time where climate data is scary. I am just coming out of long period of grief and acceptance of what our new world is going to look like. This space explores the corridors between parenthood, climate change, society, and art making. We will scale jump and time warp ourselves into new realities; so that we can venture into unexplored envelopes of hope. May we swell together as the world moves through us, may we embrace and hold one another through new terrain.
3. The Important Bits
What you can expect from Early Oceans; I will be sharing every Friday beginning in December as of now. In the future, I would love to host community discussions and potentially a monthly Q&A with a fellow writer, creative, scientist, or human. This newsletter will exist for free until February, at that point I will introduce a paid, sliding scale option, this space will always be accessible to everyone. If you would like to collaborate or have any projects in mind, please reach out!
